Post the Cambridge Analytica scandal, Mark Zuckerberg had to face the US Congress to explain his company’s stand and role in the data-sharing scandal. It was a five-hour long meeting with the US Senate, where questions were thrown at the Facebook chief on privacy, data mining and regulations.24 The public confidence in social media is all-time low regarding these issues, and they are worried about getting watched all the time, with fear of personal data getting stolen, and what to believe and what not to. This has led to many people taking social media detox as it started affecting their mental health. According to Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Facebook, there are three kinds of fake news. First is the fake news created by spammers, which he thinks is much easy to deal with. Secondly is the one created by the State like the Russian bots, which he believes can be identified and removed as fake accounts. The third and the most difficult category he feels is the fake news from the real media with varying levels of accuracy and trustworthiness. A lot of efforts have been made by social networking sites to curb the fake news.
